NASI GROMBYANG

Bisane didarani grombyang?
Sebabe sega karo duduhe kuwe akeh duduhe, dadi ning digawa goyang-goyang (grombyang-grombyang)…. kuwe jare wong Pemalang dewek…

Makanan khas Pemalang ini banyak terdapat di sepanjang Jalan R.E. Martadinata, dan seputar alun-alun Kota Pemalang. Ramuan Grombyang terdiri dari nasi, irisan daging kerbau dan kuah, disajikan dalam mangkuk kecil dilengkapi sate kerbau. Nama Grombyang berasal dari bentuk penyajian makanan ini, antara isi dan kuah lebih banyak kuahnya sehingga kelihatan grombyang-grombyang (goyang-goyang).

Tidak diketahui dengan pasti kapan makanan khas ini mulai diciptakan. Namun, menurut penuturan para orang tua di Pemalang, makanan khas Grombyang sudah ada sejak tahun 1900-an. Pada waktu itu penjual Grombyang menjual dagangannya tidak menetap seperti sekarang tetapi berkeliling kampung.

Ciri khas Grombyang terletak pada tempat jualannya berupa kulai besar, tempat nasi ditutupi dengan kain merah, dan penerangan remang-remang dengan lampu templok. Ciri lainnya, pembeli menikmati hidangan dengan duduk di dingklik (kursi kecil pendek). Selain Grombyang masih ada jenis makanan khas lainnya seperti Sate Loso dan Kupat Dekem yang dapat dijumpai di Jalan R.E. Martadinata dan seputar alun-alun Kota Pemalang
